Round Rock, Texas day one

Last night we both slept better.  We woke up about 9:00 a.m.  I had many friends tell me to sleep in when I retired, but this was the first morning I slept that late.   We were on the road by just before 10:00 a.m.  Driving through the Texas countryside was beautiful.  We loved the many wildflowers on the roadsides and in the fields.  There were purple, yellow, pink, red and orange flowers.  We also saw fields of sunflowers.  Wow, we expected desert and got beauty. The trees and green of the countryside were beautiful.  Texans really take care of their properties, for the most part all the farms and land were well maintained and beautiful.

We saw so many wind turbines.  We noticed many on the sides of the road to begin with and then in front of us on the top of three bluffs, they filled the horizon.  After that, they just kept coming.  On both sides of the road, as far as we could see were wind turbines.  We looked up information on the internet about them and learned even more.  It was really cool.  We even saw three blades going the opposite direction on the road on the back of semis.

There seems to be very little if any wind blowing but they were still turning
Wind Turbines as far as you can see
The Wind turbines were massive

When we stopped and took this video the wind was blowing pretty hard

We also found some kind of odd things along the way.  The names of some of the towns were interesting.  We saw towns called Post, Bangs, Blanket, Zephyr, and Priddy.  It makes you wonder how these towns got their names.  (Of course, coming from Utah, I guess I shouldn't say anything about different town names, but we found them interesting).  The other thing we found interesting was all the cemeteries and churches out in the middle of nowhere with nothing around them for miles.

Michael also saw a couple of armadillos on the side of the road.  They were deceased. Nola didn't get to see them. :(

Once we got to Red Rock, we texted Julie and shortly after, met Julie and Bob for dinner at Rudy's BBQ.  It was a funky serving style (Served on a waxed paper with waxed paper for plates) with really good food.  After dinner we went to their home and visited for the evening and we really enjoyed hanging out with them.  We look forward  to hanging out with them tomorrow.
