Happy Independence Day July 4, 2016

Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July

This morning started out foggy and overcast with intermittent rain.

Gray and slightly foggy day

After traveling for a couple of hours, we came upon a good rainstorm about 25 miles south of the Virginia border.  It rained fairly hard for about 50 miles and then it was light rain for the next 25 miles, when it changed to fairly heavy rain again.  It continued on an off for the rest of the day.

It is hard to see how hard it was raining, but I tried to take a picture.

When we were stopped for traffic accident on the freeway, Michael took this picture.

It just kept raining
We have seen lots of fields of peanuts as we have traveled the last few days. We have also seen lots of signs for boiled peanuts. It is a favorite southern food   North Carolina actually named it the official state snack. We also started seeing a lot of fields of tobacco today.

We stopped and ate lunch at a Cracker Barrel today.

After lunch, we continued on our way, arrived in Virginia

and drove through the rain until we got to Alexandria to our hotel.  We took the free shuttle from the hotel to Old Town Alexandria and wandered down the street till we got the waterfront and then wandered back.  We stopped at The Warehouse for dinner since they had the lowest prices of any menu we had checked.

We had a $12 hamburger with fries.  It was a very good burger, but I have never eaten a burger in a good restaurant with linen on the table and formal servers serving the food.

After we got back up to our pick up point, we saw this sign and had to take a picture for Alesha. Read it carefully Alesha.

After we returned to the hotel, we got in touch with our dear friends who we haven't seen for years and made arrangements to meet them on Wednesday to catch up.  Tomorrow we will go into DC and enjoy the sites.
