On the Road Again July 11, 2016

We took our time getting going this morning thinking we could avoid the rush hour traffic. It was a good plan. We didn't fight any traffic leaving Newark. Of course, we didn't go into New York city, we went around it.

Driving through the Catskill mountains was beautiful. They are totally covered in trees. They are not tall mountains like the Rockies. However, they are truly beautiful.
The Catskills are beautiful and totally covered in trees.

Sign on the side of the road: "It can wait, text stop in 5 miles." It was talking about a rest stop. We laughed and thought it was a great sign.

The scenery gradually changed to farms and towns. Because we didn't want to take the toll road, we ended up driving through a lot of small towns. We were so glad we did. The towns were full of beautiful Victorian style homes. Oh my gosh. I have decided that if I have a favorite style of architecture, it would be Victorian in all it's varieties.  Most of them along the road we traveled were well cared for and made the towns very attractive.

New York state is really beautiful.  We live in a beautiful world and we are so grateful the Lord created such a wonderful place for us to live.

At one point we went through a national preserve and there were nests on top of the power poles.  It looked like there were eagles in several of the nests.
See the nest at the top of the pole?

We spent a bit of time with whoopsies in trying to get to lunch and in finding our hotel which is tucked back behind some other businesses. But we still enjoyed our drive.  We are really looking forward to our day with the church sites tomorrow and the pageant tomorrow night.  We have former ward members who are cast members in the pageant and they are going to have some seats reserved for us.  That was really nice of them.

We are headed west now, so we feel like it is really the last leg of our trip.  This trip has been a great experience and we are thoroughly enjoying our time together.
